ORLANDO, Fla., FEB. 16, 2011 — Global-5 President and CEO Mary Hamill was recently named chair of the Orlando Organizing Committee Marketing and Public Relations subcommittee for the 18th World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems. In that role, she will lead efforts to raise national and worldwide awareness prior to the October gathering, and will provide news media support during the event.

The 18th ITS World Congress is Oct. 16-20, 2011 at the Orlando/Orange County Convention Center and brings together government agencies, and public and private sector entities from ITS America, ERTICO-ITS Europe, and ITS Asia-Pacific. This year’s event is expected to draw 10,000 delegates from more than 65 countries, including legislators, ministers of transportation, transportation officials, international standards experts, engineers, manufacturers and other ITS stakeholders.

“The Orlando ITS World Congress is shaping up to be the best event of its kind anywhere in the world,” Hamill said. “We’re deploying a permanent connected vehicles test-bed on the major highways and roads around the convention center and visitors will see the safety benefits firsthand. Our technology showcase will feature state-of-the-art demonstrations and our exhibitors are displaying best-of-class innovations. We expect transportation ministers from throughout the world to attend, along with the top U.S. transportation officials.”

Hamill was also recently elected to the executive committee of Florida’s state Intelligent Transportation Society chapter. Her election was announced at Transpo2010, Dec. 14 in Ponte Vedra Beach. Committee members rotate annually through the four positions, meaning Hamill will serve as the chapter’s president in 2014. She has served on the board of ITS Florida since 2006, managing the activities of the Outreach Committee.
