Global-5 is excited to share news of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) $40-million grant opportunity to advance the deployments of connected and interoperable vehicle technologies.

The Saving Lives with Connectivity: Accelerating V2X Deployment grant opportunity is intended to promote the deployment of V2X (vehicle-to-everything) technology with the goal of advancing its full life-saving potential. The grant opportunity also seeks to ensure that connected technologies communicate securely and without harmful interference across a variety of devices and platforms.

Those applying for a Saving Lives with Connectivity: Accelerating V2X Deployment grant — which includes significant public outreach requirements — have until January 17, 2024 to submit their application.

“Stakeholder communications in its many forms, from general public education to specialty media relations, is essential to the success of any intelligent transportation systems deployment,” Global-5 President and CEO Mary Hamill said. “We applaud USDOT for requiring stakeholder outreach elements in its efforts to accelerate the implementation of technology with the potential to save lives.”

The Saving Lives with Connectivity: Accelerating V2X Deployment grant opportunity calls for a comprehensive outreach plan that includes strategies for:

  • national and local media relations;
  • website and social media presence;
  • crisis communications;
  • community awareness; and
  • trade industry relations

plus deliverables such as

  • website;
  • videos;
  • photography;
  • media materials; and
  • trade publication articles.

The plan also requires the heavy lift of hosting public outreach events and presenting at industry events, along with producing support materials (brochures, fact sheets, talking points, slide decks, etc.) in multiple languages.

“This funding opportunity aims to evaluate risks, address challenges, and reduce uncertainties to enable initial V2X deployments,” Hamill added. “Global-5 — a Woman Owned Small Business with almost 30 years of experience serving transportation clients — is proud to support the role that communications plays in advancing the nation’s interoperable connectivity goals.”
